Remember how I told you all that I don't have my own classroom because I teach half the day in one teacher's class and half the day in another teacher's class? Well... I have had to rethink some things and adapt a little. Because I teach math (calendar included) and I didn't have the wall space for my calendar materials, I had to improvise a little. A friend gave me one of those huge science project presentation boards (covered in clear contact paper) and here is what I came up with...
I will obviously be sharing all of these files with you all in the post. But are a few things to note. I tried just using StickyTac to stick everything on and then used labeled clothes pins to mark the Days of the Week, Season, and Months. Both of those ideas did not work. Stuff was sliding off every other day and the kids were having a hard time with the clothes pins. I then switched to foam mounting squares to stick everything that was permanent down. This has lasted. I also swapped the clothes pins out for velcro. The calendar is a bulletin board set from DJ Inkers. The Days in School pocket chart is from a local teacher supply store.
If you want to make your own... here are the templates.
((I bought the weather one so I can't share it with you. Sorry.))
Well, as always I hope someone can use this stuff and I really have missed you all! I will post again very soon.
Brittney this is fantastic! I love the way that you have adapted! I think I will be using a few of these ideas:) Thanks for your awesome post!
ReplyDeleteJust came across your blog and as a current sophomore in college (and future 2nd grade teacher), I wanted to let you know how inspired I am! Off to look at more of your fun projects. Thanks for sharing! :)
ReplyDeleteI really like your board. I've been developing several similar boards for centers in my 2nd grade class. I want to be able to move things around at will.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great idea even for rooms short on board or wall space. I've used these for a few things in my room this year too. I'm a new follower.

I love the calendar! It would work even if you had your own classroom because you could put it away when you were done and use the bulletin board/wall space for something else. Great job!

I love this idea. I am in the process of making one for my two preschoolers that stay at home with me. Since they no longer attend preschool, I am now in charge of teaching them all sorts of fun things, and your blog and Pins on Pinterest help so much. So much so that I have told my Kinder's teacher all about you so that she can use some of your wonderful ideas.
ReplyDeleteThanks!
Erica
Wow! That is tricky business sharing two classrooms. AMAZING! What an awesome way to make it work.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for the freebies.

A Year of Many Firsts
That is such a cute idea! I would have never even thought of making a "mini" calendar! But it would work just as great! Especially when you get to 3rd and 2nd grade, calendar time is still important for math skills, but not like first or second so some might want to use that bulletin space for reading or writing, so the calendar could be on the poster board.
ReplyDeleteThank you for this! Fantastic! :0)

I love the calendar math being on a tri-fold board! I'm definitely doing this next year. My classroom has such limited wall space. I am your newest follower too :-)

Thank you!!! I teach preschool and was already planning on using a tri fold board--(I have 5 of my own kids and have done a billion science fairs:) But I wasn't sure how I was going to do a calendar board for my class. You have saved me so much time and have given me inspiration. And I love DJ Inkers! I feel so relieved. Thanks again! Great blog:)
ReplyDeleteLove the table top calendar! Great idea! Thanks for sharing with us! :)

ReplyDeleteI love your try-folding calendar math! It is exactly what I was looking for. I wanted to find out where you found the season strips and the font you used. This will save so much space in my classroom!
ReplyDeleteI am currently homeschooling my 5 yr old, and I love this idea to get him more familiar with the calendar! We have been working on ordinal numbers and days of the week for a couple of weeks (we are doing year round school, right now kindergarten), and he is having a really hard time with it. Most things he picks right up on, so I can't wait to use this, since our home "classroom" is full of stuff already! Also, do you have any suggestions for how to make calendar math more "friendly"? I'm not really sure how to approach it differently than how it's described in our curriculum. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much - this'll be great for my poor wee soul in a upper stages class.
ReplyDeleteThank you sooo much!!! I have been looking for an idea that would save me some space on my board and now I can put this out and ut into a center!!! Thank you again!!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful work!! Too bad my children are too old for this!! I just posted about it in my blog for others to see: http://familiacatolicahomeschooler.wordpress.com/2013/04/09/imprimible-para-un-calendario-educativo/
ReplyDeleteThis is great idea. How did you come across the pockets for your units (100/10s/ones) and days of the week? Do you have a template you can share?

Thank you so much for your post. I was just informed that I will be teaching Middle School Math, 6th, 7th and 8th grade intensive classes from a cart. I may have to switch into 4 different classrooms. I have been given a travel cart which is small and has commpartments. I was so overwhelmed with trying to display classroom rules, classroom procedures, our daily agenda, word wall, student's display of work, student outcomes. While attending orientation I was informed of all of these requirements and feel as though my head will explode! I LOVE your display and hope to use your creativity to make a display for my Middle School Math Cart. Thank you for sharing!!

ReplyDeleteI am currently using the Months and Days tags in my classroom, thank you so much! I LOVE the font and I'm wondering what it's called and if you can tell me where to find it.
